The main purpose of the visit is the growth of relations between the ANCYL and the BDPYW.
While in Botswana, the ANCYL shall exchange experiences with their BDP counterparts particularly in the area of youth economic empowerment and youth political development. The BDP Youth Wing believes that it shall learn a lot for m the ANC Youth League, which was formed by Nelson Mandela in 1954. The ANCYL has a variety of interests in many areas of business in South Africa. Their active participation in the political process in South Africa, before and after independence, remains an inspiration to many.
The visit, signals the enviable relationship between the Botswana Democratic Party and the African National Congress as demonstrated by among others the invitation by each party, to the other, to their conferences s\and congresses. On the 25th August 2008, a delegation from the BDP, comprising the party Chairman Hon. Daniel Kwelagobe, Member of the Central Committee, Hon Pelonomi Venson, Member of the Central Committee and Mr Fidelis Molao, the Deputy Executive Secretary, paid a courtesy call on the ANC at Luthuli House Johannesburg South Africa where they were warmly received by the ANC President Jacob Zuma, the ANC Deputy President His Excellency Kgalema Motlanthe, the Secretary General Mr Gwede Mantashe and the National Chairman Hon. Baleka Mbethe. On the 11th October 2008, the ANC Treasurer General, Dr Mathews Phosa officiated at the BDP Women’s Wing Fundraising Dinner at Tati River Lodge at Francistown.
The relations between the two parties continue to grow in leaps and bounds to the benefit of the peoples of both countries. While in Botswana during this historic three day visit, the ANCYL shall have an opportunity to meet and interact with the wider BDP membership and young Batswana at place and time to be confirmed. The BDP Youth Wing feel highly honoured by this important gesture of friendship from their brothers and sisters from South Africa and is doing all in its powers to ensure that this historic visit remains memorable and goes down the memory lane as a great gesture of true friendship between two all weather friends.
