BDP Secretariats
The secretariat and or Headquarters of the party is housed in
Gaborone. It has a staff compliment of 21 headed by the Executive
Secretary who is the Secretary to the Central Committee of the party
and the party’s media liason or spokesperson. The role of the party
secretariat involves among others, coordinating all party activities
in other words it is the ‘heart of the party’. The secretariat helps
with the formulation of internal party policies, programmes such as
seminars and their implementations at all levels of the
organisation. Such programmes include action plans during primary
elections, by – elections and general elections, mobilising human
resources to operate in these areas.
Working committees of Central
Committee get their service from the secretariat in order for them
to perform their mandate smoothly. All communication from the
central
committee to various party structures is rooted through the
secretariat and vice versa. It also liases with the Treasurer of the
party in drawing up the budget and estimates for recurrent
expenditure and also expenditure on periodic elections. All in all
the secretariat sees to it that the party structures are functional
and recommends remedy where necessary, and also keeps the party
membership list. |
